Swedish Mini-Royals Send Advent Greetings - Princess Sofia’s past ties to Jeffrey Epstein spark fresh scrutiny in Sweden
Princess Sofia of Sweden is facing growing public scrutiny over her past meetings with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Swedish royal court has confirmed she encountered him 'a few times' in the early 2000s, before her marriage to Prince Carl Philip. Meanwhile, the princess and her husband recently shared a family video marking the third Advent, offering a glimpse of their private life amid the controversy.
The meetings between Sofia Hellqvist—now Princess Sofia—and Epstein took place around 2005, arranged by Swedish businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom. Ehnbom, a former close confidante of Sofia’s, reportedly introduced her to Epstein in social settings, including restaurants and a film premiere. Ehnbom’s foundation had received €160,000 from Epstein between 2001 and 2014, and she was known for facilitating introductions between him and young Swedish women.
The royal family’s Advent post contrasts with the ongoing questions about Sofia’s past connections. The palace has reiterated that her meetings with Epstein were limited and occurred long before her royal duties began. For now, the princess continues her role as a mother and public figure, though the scrutiny over her earlier associations remains.
