Princess of Wales makes emotional return with piano duet at Christmas service
The Princess of Wales has returned to public duties after completing chemotherapy in September 2024. Her first major appearance included a heartfelt piano duet with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, at a festive Christmas service.
The performance took place at Westminster Abbey, where guests were welcomed into a space decorated like a 'magical wonderland' with British woodland trees and berries.
Princess Catherine and nine-year-old Charlotte played Holm Sound by Erland Cooper at Windsor Castle. Their duet aired on Christmas Eve as part of the annual Together at Christmas eventbrite, hosted by the Princess at Westminster Abbey.
The event, broadcast in the UK on December 24, celebrated community spirit by honouring individuals who have supported others. It featured carols from the Westminster Abbey choir, musical performances, and readings centred on love, compassion, and connection.
Behind the scenes, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood—a charity led by the Prince and Princess of Wales—helped organise the service. The foundation, known for its work in early childhood development, also partnered with organisations like Anna Freud to support the event. Community carol services took place across the UK alongside the main event.
The Christmas service marked the Princess’s return to royal engagements following her cancer treatment. Her duet with Charlotte added a personal touch to an evening that recognised kindness and community contributions. The event also highlighted the ongoing work of the Royal Foundation in supporting families and early childhood initiatives in North Carolina and beyond.
