Princess Diana Issued Warning Regardling Royal Life to William and Harry
Princess Diana's Legacy of Service and Self-Sacrifice
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Patrick Jephson, Princess Diana's former private secretary, shared insights about the late royal's impact on her sons, Princes William and Harry. Jephson emphasized that Diana's life was a testament to the importance of earning public affection and the rewards of royalty through self-sacrifice and service.
Jephson, who worked for Diana between 1988 and 1996, acting first as her equerry and then as her private secretary, highlighted that by studying Diana's life, her sons and their advisers would find valuable examples and warnings to guide them through the difficulties of royal life. He conveyed that Diana's spirit continues to guide and inspire them along this challenging path.
According to Jephson, Diana wished for William and Harry to understand that royal privileges come with heavy responsibilities and that maintaining public affection requires ongoing personal sacrifice. This legacy of service and the call to earn their place in the public eye remain central themes in her enduring influence on her sons.
Last month, Prince Harry visited the same landmine field in Angola that Princess Diana famously walked through in 1997, demonstrating his commitment to continuing his mother's work. Similarly, Prince William has fronted campaigns to end homelessness, a cause that Diana was passionate about.
In 2021, Prince Harry and Prince William made a public stand of unity to unveil the Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace, eighteen months after Prince Harry's departure from royal life. Despite their personal differences, the Princes have remained committed to keeping their mother's memory alive through their own campaigns.
Both William and Harry are united in their commitment to continuing their mother's work. Jephson's message serves as a reminder that the lessons learned from Diana's life continue to resonate and offer guidance for the future of the British monarchy.
