"Prince Singer's Latest Single - No Peaceful Symphony"
Taking a Trip Down History Lane: Tobias Künzel's Fun-Filled Musical, "Tod auf dem Thron - Das Klosical"
From the heart of London to the city of Halle, the latest musical creation by Tobias Künzel, known as the vocalist for the German band "Die Prinzen", has crossed quite a few miles. Debuting in London towards the end of March, the German version, "Tod auf dem Thron - Das Klosical", has now made its grand entrance in Halle.
Together with his British co-author, Mark Underwood, Künzel has penned this eccentric musical, the latest addition to his existing collection of six works.
A Unique Mix of Notable Personalities
In "Tod auf dem Thron", Künzel and Underwood breathe life onto the stage an intriguing ensemble of well-known figures from recent history. The Queen, Margaret Thatcher, Elvis Presley, and Erich Honecker make their grand entrance, each adding a dash of flair to the production. The musical is performed by a talented team of two actors, four puppeteers, and a live band, with Künzel himself taking up the drums.
The unusual title, "Tod auf dem Thron", came to Künzel in a rather unconventional manner. During a casual evening out with Mark Underwood, after their third beer, Künzel suggested they should collaborate on a musical. Being fresh from the loo, he tossed out the idea - "It'll be a Klosical."
A Cross-Atlantic Collaboration and Translation Challenge
As the piece was originally written in English, translating it proved to be quite a task for Künzel. He shared his thoughts on the linguistic complexity, "English is just simpler when it comes to music, it sounds nicer. German always sounds a bit harsher and more scratchy. But the German version does have a few jokes that the English one doesn't." He looks forward to Mark Underwood's reaction during the premiere, as he tends to be amused by where the German audience finds humor.
An Imaginative Narrative with a Twist
The musical centers around the imaginative journey of a young girl as she lets her mind wander while on the throne. This imaginative tale weaves together these eminent figures, creating a delightful spectacle of whimsy[1][2][3][4].
