Prince Harry's Interactive Game Foundation Responds to Disheartening Announcement

The Ghanaian government is currently conducting a full investigation into the military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, shortly after takeoff from Kotoka International Airport. The tragic incident claimed the lives of several senior political figures, including Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, as well as six other individuals from the air force crew.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are leading the investigation, with support from other security agencies. The helicopter's flight recorders, often referred to as "black boxes," were recovered shortly after the crash, aiding the inquiry. As of August 12, 2025, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and the investigation is still in progress.

The crash took place during a flight to an event tackling illegal mining in Obuasi, Ashanti Region. The helicopter went off radar, and wreckage was later found with all victims deceased due to a post-crash fire. The Ghana National Fire and Rescue Service is also assisting the military investigation.

The Prince Harry's Invictus Games Foundation, which visited Ghana in May 2025, has expressed its deep sadness over the loss of these 8 public servants. Dr Edward Omane Boamah, a friend of the Invictus Games Foundation, had provided clear and inspiring support for the foundation's mission and vision during their visit. The Invictus Games Foundation extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana.

Despite official assurances from President John Mahama of a "full and transparent investigation," there is public skepticism regarding the military-led inquiry due to historical concerns about aviation safety and the timeline of the military response. Calls for a more independent and rigorous investigation are being made by the public and media. Identification of the victims required DNA analysis performed in South Africa due to the severe condition of the remains.

No official accident report or definitive cause has been released yet, and investigations are ongoing as of the latest available information.
