The son of the queen - a member of the royal family - had his privileges revoked by his own mother after allegations of sexual misconduct, and he was compelled to defend himself in a foreign court, even though he eventually reached an agreement with Giuffre outside the court.

This sends a deafening message to other powerful people: There is no privilege that allows them to use their power to escape sexual abuse accusations. Of course, Prince Andrew does not fully accept responsibility for Giuffre's accusations, as no crime was charged against him, although Giuffre claims she was 17 years old when she allegedly was forced to comply with sexual activities with him in the United States and the United Kingdom.

However, the fact that the royal excommunication and a foreign civil lawsuit threatened him, and he was ordered to pay Giuffre compensation, left many men only scratching their heads and sending a signal to sexually abused women that they would be heard.

This is far removed from the days of the #MeToo movement, when influential men like Harvey Weinstein had long relied on their power to abuse women without consequence. (Weinstein was convicted of criminal sex acts and rape in third degree in New York in 2020 and pleaded not guilty to further charges in California last year.)

In the transmitted brief to Federal Judge Lewis Kaplan about the agreement, it is said: "Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein and praises Giuffre and other survivors for their courage. He promises to show his support by fighting against the evil of human trafficking and its victims." His regret for his association with Epstein. The brief also states: "Prince Andrew plans to make a substantial donation to Giuffre's charity to support victims' rights." A photo of Prince Andrew was taken on his Scottish estate in Balmoral in August, which was widely interpreted as an attempt to protect him (Buckingham Palace said that he often sent such letters but it is noteworthy that this letter was sent the day of Andrew's arrival – long after the queen's arrival.)
