Primorye's New Museum Project Brings Ethnic Heritage to Life Through Art and Storytelling
The Arsenyev Museum of Far Eastern History has unveiled a new project celebrating the ethnic diversity of Primorsky Krai. Titled The World of Primorye's Traditional Cultures, it invites visitors of all ages to explore the region's heritage through interactive experiences. The initiative aligns with Russia's Year of National Unity, declared by President Vladimir Putin.
The project centres on an immersive tour where guests step into the lives of early settlers in the Ussuri region. One highlight is Welcome to a Peasant's Home, an educational journey that recreates a Russian settler's house using traditional proverbs and riddles. Visitors also encounter rare artefacts, such as garments crafted from fish skin—a near-lost skill with few modern parallels.
The museum's efforts tie into Primorsky Krai's broader cultural development programme. By showcasing the region's unique identity, the exhibition encourages reflection on how different communities shaped local traditions and place names. After the tours, many visitors inquire about their own family roots and how their ancestors arrived in Primorye.
The project underscores the distinct heritage of each ethnic group while emphasising the collective strength found in unity. Through hands-on learning and historical artefacts, it offers a fresh perspective on the region's past. The museum continues to play a key role in preserving and promoting Primorye's cultural legacy.
