Primorye's Karate Championship Sets Stage for District Showdowns
Karate Championships Held in Vladivostok as Primorye Athletes Prepare for Far Eastern Federal District Tournaments
The Primorye Territory Karate Championship and Cup took place in Vladivostok's Vostok Sports Complex, drawing nearly 500 athletes from across the region. The tournament served as a crucial qualifying stage for the Far Eastern Federal District Championship and Cup, set to be held in Ussuriysk in the coming weeks.
Igor Dorozhny, president of the Primorye Karate Federation, emphasized the event's significance in preparing for the district's premier competitions: "Today, we are hosting the Primorye Territory Karate Championship and Cup, which acts as the qualifying round for the Far Eastern Federal District Championship and Cup in Ussuriysk from April 16 to 19. As always, Vladivostok is strongly represented, alongside large delegations from Ussuriysk, Nakhodka, Razdolnoe, and Galyonki. To get ready, we hold joint training sessions with the city's athletes once a week."
Dorozhny noted that while adult categories have seen a slight decline in performance, younger age groups—10–11, 12–13, and 14–15—are setting a strong pace, giving the federation hope for nurturing future champions. He acknowledged tough competition from Sakhalin Oblast's athletes but expressed confidence that Primorye's team could secure victories this year.
The event underscored the growing popularity of karate in Primorye and marked a key step in the region's preparation for the upcoming district tournaments.
