HÀ NỘI—Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and his spouse concluded their official visit to Malaysia on Wednesday, wrapping up a fruitful trip that marked various significant milestones in Vietnam–Malaysia relations and the broader ASEAN community.

During the four-day visit, PM Chính participated in more than 40 bilateral and multilateral activities, including the 46th ASEAN Summit, multiple dialogues, and several high-profile meetings.

The landmark visit significantly upgrade the Vietnam–Malaysia relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both countries agreed to implement an action program for the 2025–2030 period, striving to deepen collaboration in various sectors.

Notable economic goals were also established, targeting $20 billion in two-way trade by 2030. The aims include balanced growth, reduced trade barriers, and leveraging mutual strengths. Cooperation will stretch beyond traditional sectors and expand into digital, circular, and green economies, energy transition, science, technology, and innovation.

In the realm of education, a letter of intent for cooperation between Malaysia’s National University (UKM) and Vietnamese National Universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City was signed, paving the way for joint research and human resource development.

On the security and cultural fronts, agreements were made to strengthen defense cooperation and partnerships in labor, culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The vibrant Vietnamese community in Malaysia—some 40,000 strong—was recognized as a crucial bridge between the two nations.

At the ASEAN Summit, PM Chính emphasized Vietnam's commitment to ASEAN solidarity, reaffirming the region's common stance on the East Sea issue and reinforcing regional unity. The visit opened up new prospects for developing a common ASEAN power grid, which could enhance regional energy security and economic resilience.

Upon their return to Hà Nội, PM Chính and his spouse were welcomed home, bringing the successful visit to a close. Further discussions and formal signings regarding the Action Programme for 2025–2030 are expected in the near future.
