TIANJIN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was in town for the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, which took place on the sweltering Wednesday of June 24th, 2025.

This year's theme, "Entrepreneurship for a New Era," attracted an impressive lineup of six heads of state and government, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Singaporean PM Lawrence Wong, Senegalese PM Ousmane Sonko, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, and Kyrgyz PM Adylbek Kasymaliev.

Chinese Premier Li highlighted the significance of the gathering in promoting multilateralism, global trade, and investment, and nurturing a spirit of entrepreneurship in these changing times. The event hosted more than 1,700 delegates, including high-ranking leaders, government officials, international organization representatives, experts, scholars, and business bigwigs from nearly 100 nations.

PM Chinh's schedule included several prominent panel discussions throughout the conference. On the opening day, he was a special guest at the policy dialogue, "Vietnam's New Era: From Vision to Action." This marked his third consecutive invitation to the WEF Annual Meeting of the New Champions. The event ran from June 24th to the 26th, boasting over 120 sessions focused on productive dialogue and collaborative action.

The Global Economic Landscape - A Closer Look

The discussions at this Summer Davos centered around five core themes:

  1. Deciphering the Global Economy: Discussions revolved around decoding economic transformations in the face of technological breakthroughs and geopolitical uncertainties, emphasizing cooperative innovation as a key to sustaining economic growth.
  2. China's Outlook: The immediate focus was on China, which contributed about 60% of global GDP in 2024 and acts as a major economic powerhouse. Topics included its economic resilience, the importance of its vast domestic market and industrial system, boosting consumption capacity, especially among low-income groups, and integrating quality with quantity for sustainable development.
  3. Industries Disrupted: The impact of cutting-edge technologies like AI+ on productivity and future economic growth, particularly in China's evolving industrial landscape, came under the microscope.
  4. Investing in People and the Planet: Improving the quality of life for people in areas such as education, healthcare, subsidized housing, social security, and elderly care was highlighted as central to overall consumption enhancement.
  5. New Energy and Materials: Sustainable development and innovation in energy sectors and material sciences formed a crucial part of the discussion, aiming to support long-term global and regional growth.

The WEF Annual Meeting of the New Champions attracted a record attendance of around 1,800 participants from 90 countries, highlighting China's growing influence in global trade stability and technological innovation [1][2][3][4][5].
