Prime Minister Modi to Participate in G-7 Summit Held in Canada on June 16-17, Following Invitation Extended by Mark Carney

PM Modi to Jam with the G-7 at Kananaskis, Canada!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's got a busy week ahead! From June 16-17, he'll be jetting off to Kananaskis, Canada, to join the illustrious G-7 gang. His invite comes from Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and marks Modi's 6th consecutive time at the G-7 Summit.

The G-7 Summit is a high-powered huddle where the PM will be rubbing elbows with leaders of the world’s leading industrialized countries, major international organizations, and other invited outreach nations. The hot topics on the agenda? Energy security, technology, AI, and quantum-related issues, among others. It’s gonna be a knowledge and power-packed event!

But, how’d ol' PM Carney manage to cop the flak for extending the invite amidst an ongoing probe involving Hardeep Singh Nijjar? Well, some beefs from the Sikh community claimed foul play. But, remember when Carney said the invite was decided considering India's global position and significance? Yep, that was the reason.

The G-7’s not new to India’s presence. Since 2014, our PM’s been a regular guest star at these summits, discussing essential issues like climate change, economic resilience, and digital transformation. In 2025, Canada's invite earned some headlines due to the strained relations between the two nations over extremism, foreign interference, and other similar jazz. Yet, the invite indicates the G-7's recognition of India's influential role on the global stage and the need for constructive dialogue on shared international challenges.

Before he takes a quantum leap with the G7, our PM's also dropping by Cyprus and Croatia from June 15-19. Becoming the first ever Indian PM to visit Croatia, PM Modi will have a chinwag with Croatian Prime Minister, Plenković, and President Milanović. The visit to Cyprus will further strengthen India's engagement with the Mediterranean, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on PM Modi's global journey!

  1. The upcoming G7 Summit's Finance Track might feature a discussion on policy-and-legislation related to India's economic resilience, as Prime Minister Modi will be in attendance.
  2. The invitation to Prime Minister Modi by the Canadian Prime Minister for the G7 Summit indicates an exchange of ideas and cooperation on general news topics such as energy security, technology, and other global matters.
  3. Politically sensitive issues like extremism and foreign interference might be addressed during the G7 Summit, as modelled by the strained relations between Canada and India in 2025 when the invite was extended despite those concerns.
