In a series of recent events, the ongoing Ukraine conflict has been a topic of discussion among global leaders. Here's a rundown of some key developments:

Ukrainian and European security advisors held an extended video conference with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of Donald Trump, to explore ways to achieve a lasting peace. However, the decision for a meeting between Trump and Putin, apparently without Zelensky, has sparked sharp criticism in Ukraine.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has not proposed that EU leaders speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine war. Instead, Orbán has vetoed joint EU statements supporting Ukraine regarding peace talks, such as those ahead of the US-Russia summit in Alaska involving President Donald Trump and Putin. Orbán blocked the EU statement that endorsed peace efforts and stressed that Ukraine must have a decisive role in peace negotiations, which aligned with the position of the other 26 EU members. The EU's response, excluding Orbán's dissent, strongly supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and insists that peace cannot be negotiated without Ukraine's consent [1][2][3][4][5].

Putin made it clear that the previously announced three-way summit with Trump and Zelensky will not happen as planned. Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called for leading EU politicians to speak directly with President Vladimir Putin about ending the Ukraine war.

The Ukrainian military reported that it has neutralized a Russian sabotage unit in the contested city of Pokrovsk. Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with his neighboring countries and allies before a possible summit with US President Donald Trump on the Ukraine war.

In a tragic turn of events, journalist Viktoria Roschtschyna, who died in Russian custody, was laid to rest in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

On the diplomatic front, the German army has repaired a damaged Patriot radar system in Ukraine. Russia and India aim to strengthen their cooperation, with Modi inviting Putin to the planned annual Russia-India summit this year in India.

However, New Delhi remains neutral on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin discussed the progress in bilateral relations during their conversation. Russian oil companies are reportedly rerouting crude oil shipments from India to China in response to the 25% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Amidst these developments, European states are reportedly concerned that US President Donald Trump has not exerted any pressure on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin so far.
