In a significant visit aimed at celebrating 50 years of the North East Council (NEC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi journeyed to Meghalaya and Tripura on Sunday. The NEC, established in 1972, has been a key agency in promoting the economic and social advancement of the northeastern states for the past five decades.

During his visit, the Prime Minister attended a captivating performance by a northeastern band named Octave. The group, associated with the eight states in the northeast region, performed the national song 'Vande Mataram'. The performance was widely shared by BJP leaders Sambit Patra, Purnesh Modi, and Dr KK Laxman on social media, as well as on PM Modi's YouTube channel.

The Prime Minister's visit was also marked by his wearing traditional attire, symbolising his commitment to the region's culture. He used the opportunity to address the people, stating that the government has evolved from 'look eastern' and 'act eastern', to 'act quick for Northeast' and 'act first for Northeast'. This new approach is focused on quick and immediate action for the region.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the Prime Minister to inspect projects worth 6,800 crore in these states. The NEC plays a crucial role in the economic and social development of the northeastern states of India, and the government's initiatives are aimed at furthering this advancement.

The BJP, a part of the ruling coalition in Meghalaya and in power in Tripura, aims to retain both states for consecutive terms in the upcoming elections. The visit to these states was also significant for the 50th anniversary of the North East Council.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the northeast's growing connectivity with India, Myanmar, and Thailand through roadways. This development is expected to boost economic and social ties within the region and beyond.

The North Eastern Region, comprising the eight states in the northeast region of India, continues to be a focus of the government's attention, with efforts being made to ensure its economic and social advancement. The visit by Prime Minister Modi serves as a testament to this commitment.
