Primary School VTH hosts VolleyGrundschulCup with 150 participating children
Jammin' at the CU-Arena: Volleyball Spectacle for Young Stars
Last Friday was a smashing volleyball day at the CU-Arena, playing host to a wholesome event – the Sparkassen VolleyGroundSchoolCup. A whopping 150 young tacklers from eight neighborhood schools wowed the crowd with their impressive spikes and spectacular saves! This extravaganza was skillfully organized by the Volleyball-Team Hamburg (VTH).
Schools from Neugraben, Fischbek, Neuenfelde, Hausbruch, Neu Wulmstorf, and one spry student from Harburg were no strangers to volleyball, having already undergone some rigorous training. In preparation for the event, the VTH coaching team moved school-to-school, imparting the essentials of volleyball – from bumping to setting. They armed these minors with the necessary skills to dominate the court before the weekend!
On the day of the big match, the young 'uns received a quick refresher course during a training session at the CU-Arena. This warm-up session was followed by a brief rundown of the game's kid-friendly rules by the efficient team from the sports profile of the Fischbek-Falkenberg comprehensive school.
The event kicked off with a bang, with excitement in the air as the youngsters dove, dug, and smashed their way through the tournament. Assistant to the ace, Gerd Grün, had some top-notch help from the sports department of the Fischbek-Falkenberg school.
The nail-biting final pitted the Grundschule an der Haake trio, Jonathan, Jordan, and Ilia, against the forceful opposition from Grundschule Am Johannisland, featuring Elena, Tilda, and Aric. A boisterous audience, mainly composed of anxious parents and eager participants, watched on as the final unfolded. The match ended on an exhilarating note, with the Johannisland team taking the match point and emerging victorious.
"Well done, champions," offered Grün, "But today, every participant leaves the CU-Arena as winners." Each contestant walked away with top-notch swag – free tickets to a regional league game of the VTH women’s team, a certificate, a medal, and thoughtful goodies sponsored by the Sparkasse Harburg-Buxtehude.
