In a freshly unveiled video clip, the world gets a glimpse of the historic first meeting between two infamous U.S. leaders - Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. The approximately two-minute video, uploaded by the Richard Nixon Foundation on YouTube, captures their interaction on March 8, 1993, just about a year before Nixon's passing from a stroke.

Until now, this footage remained hidden away as it was initially recorded by the White House television unit during Clinton's tenure, but it was never released to the public.

Both ex-presidents had their fair share of drama, with Nixon stepping down in disgrace during the Watergate scandal, and Clinton being impeached for his scandalous affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The video shows Nixon, who was elected in 1968, amiably strolling into the White House while Clinton, who took office in 1992, approaches him with another photographer and officials.

"Well hi, how are you?," Nixon asks Clinton as they shake hands, to which Clinton responds, "I'm sorry I'm late, I was on the phone with the Philippine president."

Nixon humorously replies, "Listen - Philippine president? They talk," and both leaders share a few laughs as the meeting begins. Clinton then introduces Nixon to Bob McNeely, his official White House photographer from 1993 to 1998.

Throughout the meeting, the ex-presidents discuss their surprise at never having met before and Clinton recalls nearly encountering Nixon at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong during the 1970s.

Eventually, the pair moves on to another room, concluding the video. The Nixon Foundation chose to share the video on their page after the Clinton Library posted it, mentioning that they had never seen the footage before.

According to Carrie Anderson, a marketing project manager for the Nixon Foundation, the video initially surfaced on the Clinton Library's YouTube channel and was first released to the public in 2023, following the submission of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

The entire video, featuring more than just Clinton and Nixon's meeting, received over 24,900 views as of Thursday afternoon. The clip presents an intriguing slice of history, showcasing the dynamics between two American leaders with quite the past.
