Previous Military Commander Domröse contemplates a potential operation in Ukraine: "Prepare for immediate deployment"

In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, General a.D. Hans-Lothar Domroese of the German Armed Forces has expressed the capability of the German forces to contribute to a peacekeeping force, should the need arise.

The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) has received a comprehensive mandate, allowing for the movement of numerous troops forward, potentially towards the east. This deployment would be contingent on a peace agreement being broken once more, and Russia launching another attack.

However, it's important to note that the current situation remains unpeaceful, and a peace agreement is yet to be reached.

The deployment of these security forces would not be about stationing military forces in Ukraine, but about defending Europe. The German Armed Forces have a history of involvement in numerous international deployments, not only within the United Nations and coalitions.

While Germany has not previously deployed troops to Ukraine in any international mission, it has stationed troops in Lithuania. Yet, the discussion about deploying troops directly to Ukraine is still ongoing, with lawyers and parliaments yet to determine its feasibility.

The focus is on defending Europe and helping Ukraine in case a peace agreement is reached and then broken again. The deployment would not involve stationing troops in Ukraine after a peace agreement; instead, it would be about having a powerful force ready to intervene if Russia attacks again.

Meanwhile, the Russian government has been criticised for its actions in Georgia (2008), Crimea (2014), and Donbass and Ukraine (2022), with the latest actions considered pure terrorism, involving the abduction of children, rape, murder, and destruction of infrastructure.

Recently, a Russian drone was reported to have crashed in Poland, and all NATO partners were informed about the incident. The Polish government considered this incident a provocation. The defense minister of Poland, Kosiniak-Kamysz, has criticised this incident.

General Domroese's old division, the Division of Rapid Forces, remains ready for deployment at all times. The German Armed Forces stand ready to uphold peace and defend Europe, should the need arise.
