Funmilayo Theresa Ogun Declares Governorship Bid for Ekiti State

Funmilayo Theresa Ogun, a seasoned politician, has officially declared her intention to run for the governorship position in Ekiti State in the 2026 elections. Ogun picked up her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

Ogun, who served as PDP State Secretary under former Governor Ayo Fayose, highlighted her experience in leadership, stating that she has been tested and is prepared for higher responsibilities. She pledged competence, transparency, and people-oriented leadership, emphasizing that her governorship bid is about restoring trust and confidence in governance and returning power to the people.

In her declaration, Ogun emphasized that her ambition is about service rather than personal gain. She did not discuss her past achievements or qualifications beyond her experience as commissioner and PDP State Secretary. Instead, she focused on her vision for Ekiti State, promising to provide a leadership style that focuses on the needs of the Ekiti people, including good roads, functional schools, accessible healthcare, and problem-solving.

Ogun did not mention any specific challenges facing Ekiti State that she plans to address or any specific policies or initiatives she plans to implement if elected. However, she urged the PDP leadership to ensure a fair contest for all aspirants, basing it on competence, experience, and capacity to deliver.

Ogun's ambition symbolizes the struggle of millions of hardworking Nigerian women who continue to be sidelined in governance. She expressed appreciation to her supporters for their loyalty and commitment, stating that the work has just begun and inviting her supporters to work together to make history.

Funmilayo Theresa Ogun's declaration marks a significant step in the political landscape of Ekiti State, as she becomes one of the contenders for the 2026 governorship election. As the race heats up, Ogun's competitors will undoubtedly be watching her closely, as she has shown herself to be a formidable contender with a clear vision for the future of Ekiti State.
