Previous ADC gubernatorial contenders advocate for Nafiu Bala as temporary chair, urge Atiku, Peter Obi to adhere to established procedures
In a significant development for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala has been endorsed as the Acting National Chairman following the voluntary resignation of Ralph Nwosu. Key stakeholders, including the National Executive Council (NEC), the National Board of Trustees (BoT), some State Chairmen, and the party's 2023 gubernatorial candidates, have backed Bala's endorsement.
Engr Terhemen Tilley-Gyado, the ADC's 2023 gubernatorial candidate for Benue State, publicly supported Bala’s endorsement, describing it as an honorable and smooth leadership transition.
In his acceptance speech, Bala pledged to lead the party with integrity, wisdom, and dedication. His focus will be on strengthening party structures and institutions, enhancing internal democracy and inclusivity, promoting the implementation of party policies and resolutions, fostering strategic partnerships and alliances, building a strong, vibrant, and effective leadership team, and uniting members and supporters to advance a collective vision for a better Nigeria.
The ADC is preparing for future elections, aiming for the 2027 cycle. The party intends to build grassroots structures, ensure compliance with the Electoral Act and party constitution for coalition building, encourage prominent coalition leaders like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rauf Aregbesola to formally register with ADC at the ward level, promote transparency, legality, good governance, and credible opposition, and build a united front aiming for democratic renewal and a better future for Nigeria.
Nafiu Bala has emphatically denied rumors of his resignation and reaffirmed his commitment to lead the party during this transitional phase. He has urged ADC members to unite for the party's growth and progress.
Tilley-Gyado, in a press conference in Abuja, asked opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Peter Obi, Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and others, to follow due process when joining the ADC. The due process includes resigning from their former political parties and registering to become bona fide members of the ADC at their respective wards.
The ADC welcomes constructive partnerships anchored on the principles of transparency, legality, and a shared vision. The party remains a progressive, integrity-driven platform ready to champion Nigeria's democratic renewal, as previously stated by Tilley-Gyado.
