Preview of the rough, fresh track 'One Of The Greats' by Florence + The Machine unveiled
Florence + The Machine have shared a preview of a new song titled "One Of The Greats," marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the London-based band. The upcoming album, "Everybody Scream," is set to be released on October 31, following their 2022 album "Dance Fever."
The upcoming album, "Everybody Scream," features a star-studded lineup of collaborators, including IDLES' Mark Bowen, Mitski, and The National's Aaron Dessner. Ethel Cain has also been credited on "One Of The Greats," according to reports on Reddit.
Florence Welch, the frontwoman of Florence + The Machine, sings the lyrics in the preview, which sees her clawing up from under the earth and spitting out her screams. The song's themes are a continuation of the exploration of womanhood, partnership, ageing, and dying that began with "Dance Fever."
Welch found inspiration in recalling her work with Mitski, whom she considers one of her favorite artists of all time. She reached out to Mitski to collaborate on the album, and Mitski worked on one of the screams. Welch was also inspired by JADE and the current experimental side of pop for "Everybody Scream."
During her recovery from lifesaving surgery during the "Dance Fever" tour in 2023, Welch began to explore spiritual mysticism and folk horror, which are reflected in the album's themes.
The UK and European arena tour for "Everybody Scream" will start in February, with two dates at The O2 in London. No release date has been confirmed for "One Of The Greats" at the time of writing.
"One Of The Greats" is not the title track of the upcoming album. Instead, the title track remains a closely guarded secret. Regardless, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of "Everybody Scream" and the new direction that Florence + The Machine are taking.
