Prevailing Sunshine from Wednesday, Rainfall expected to follow
Baden-Württemberg, a southern German state, is set to experience a shift in weather patterns from Tuesday to Friday (August 5-8, 2025). According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the region will see a transition from persistent rainfall and thunderstorms at the start of the week towards somewhat drier and more stable conditions by midweek.
Currently, a stationary disturbance is causing ongoing heavy rain and severe thunderstorms in southern Germany, including Baden-Württemberg. This has resulted in localised flooding and high water risks, particularly south of the Danube and between the Black Forest and Bavarian Forest. Up to 150 liters of rain per square meter are possible by Tuesday, with hail and strong gusts locally.
However, starting from Wednesday through Friday, the heavy rain is expected to subside gradually as the rain front moves over the Alps. The area will transition to less frequent showers with some sunny intervals, though isolated thunderstorms may still occur occasionally. North of the Saarland-Saxony line generally sees friendlier weather earlier in the week, but Baden-Württemberg's southern parts face heavier precipitation early on.
By the end of the week, Baden-Württemberg can expect a significant improvement in weather conditions, with more sunshine. The key pattern shift from Tuesday to Friday is from a period of almost continuous heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to a phase with decreased precipitation frequency, fewer severe storms, and progressively clearer weather.
On Sunday, temperatures will reach up to 17°C on the Alb and up to 23°C along the Rhine. However, clouds are expected to move in from the northwest in the afternoon, bringing shower-like rain. The wind on Sunday will remain weak, but will occasionally gust. In the south of Baden-Württemberg, there will be showers on Sunday, with thunderstorms expected in Oberschwaben in the afternoon.
On Monday, the weather in Baden-Württemberg is expected to be mostly dry, with temperatures reaching up to 25°C along the Rhine. The weather in the Black Forest will be windier, with possible strong gusts. However, there might be some initial sunshine on Tuesday, but clouds are likely to take over later in the day. According to a DWD meteorologist, there will be no severe weather on Tuesday.
After a changeable weather over the weekend, people in Baden-Württemberg should expect more rainy days initially. However, August marks the return of summer in the southwest, and the German Weather Service predicts that summer weather will only arrive towards the end of the week in the southwest. By the end of the week, people in Baden-Württemberg can expect "plenty of sun" according to the DWD.
Overnight into Wednesday, it is expected to be between 13 and 8°C with some rain. Later in the afternoon on Sunday, the clouds might clear up, and the rain might ease. It's advisable for residents to stay updated with the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions during the transition period.
The weather forecast for Baden-Württemberg predicts a significant shift from Tuesday to Friday, transitioning from persistent rainfall and thunderstorms to decreased precipitation frequency, fewer severe storms, and progressively clearer weather. This improvement in weather conditions is expected to continue with more sunshine by the end of the week, as per the German Weather Service (DWD).
