Donald J. Trump, the one and only, announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran before the rooster even crows. At 6:00 AM CEST on Tuesday, the peace treaty notionally kicked off, but not without a bang - or rather, several explosions.
Trump spread the news of the ceasefire on his Truth Social platform. Needless to say, the press picked it up in no time. But it seems the combatants themselves didn’t quite get the memo, as they kept lobbing rockets left and right for hours. By the time the ceasefire was officially recognized, casualties on both sides were mounting.
00:02: Trump was the first to call a truce, tweeting his congratulations on a future ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The deal, in his words, was for a complete and absolute cessation of hostilities, but with stages for each nation to disarm, starting at 6:00 AM CEST.
3:38 AM: Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghtchi, didn’t jump on the bandwagon immediately. He claimed there wasn't any agreement on a ceasefire, but he said Iran was ready to accept one.
4:36 AM: The media reported that Iran had finally agreed to the ceasefire. State television in Iran described it as an "imposed" ceasefire, forcing the enemy to halt their aggression.
But as the clock struck six, Israel found itself under attack yet again. Rockets hit Be'er Sheva, claiming the lives of four innocent souls. Israel, in turn, launched air raids on Iran, taking nine lives.
7:52 AM: Trump posted another tweet, urging both parties to adhere to the ceasefire: "The ceasefire is now in effect. Please don't violate it."
8:23 AM: Israel confirmed the ceasefire with Iran, and Benjamin Netanyahu informed his cabinet that Israel had reached all its war objectives, plus some.
9:58 AM: Iranis reportedly fired another rocket at Haifa, but fortunately, no one was hurt. Israel retaliated with threats of harsh counterattacks if the ceasefire was violated.
10:20 AM: Trump blasted a warning to Israel via Truth Social: "Israel, don’t blow up those bombs! If you do, that’s a big violation! Bring your pilots home now!" Otherwise, the peace Trump brokered could crumble beneath their feet.
12:50 PM: Trump reiterated his point that Iran will never rebuild its nuclear facilities.
1:30 PM: Trump publicly berated both Israel and Iran for breaching the ceasefire, citing his disappointment with Israel’s prompt aggressions. In the heat of the moment, he exclaimed, "They don’t know what the fuck they’re doing!"
After some phone calls between Trump and Netanyahu, the truce situation smoothed over, albeit with some reservations.
13:48: Trump confirmed on Truth Social that the ceasefire remained intact: "Israel will not attack Iran. All planes will return home, waving friendly to Iran. No one will be harmed! The ceasefire is in effect!"
14:31: The Israeli Air Force destroyed two radar facilities in northern Tehran, although it’s unclear when or how these actions were coordinated with Trump’s warnings.
