Presnel Kimpembe embraces fresh start in Qatar after PSG struggles

Presnel Kimpembe has started a new chapter in his career after joining Qatar SC in September 2025. The 30-year-old French defender left Paris Saint-Germain following a long injury layoff and limited playing time. Now fully fit, he is adjusting to life in Qatar, where the climate and football culture present fresh challenges.

Kimpembe's move came after a difficult period at PSG. He suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury in February 2023, requiring two surgeries. His return to competition only happened in February 2025, leaving him with just 76 minutes of play in his final season with the club.

The defender has since settled into Qatar SC, making six appearances before a minor injury in late December. Though temperatures soared to 48-50°C (118-122°F) upon his arrival, January brought some relief, with conditions dropping to around 40°C (104°F).

Kimpembe describes his first start for the club as surreal, much like his early days as a professional. Now, he feels physically strong, with no restrictions in training. Despite the change, he remains ambitious, dismissing any talk of semi-retirement. His goal is to compete at the highest level until he turns 40.

He still follows PSG closely, calling them a 'war machine' in terms of technique and tactics. Yet, he insists the Qatar Stars League is far from easy. The league demands adaptation, and after years of fitting into others' expectations, he now finds people adjusting to him instead.

Kimpembe has played 450 minutes across six matches for Qatar SC so far. His focus remains on recovery, performance, and longevity in the game. The defender's experience and hunger suggest he will continue to play a key role in his new team's ambitions.
