On Saturday, right-wing presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot multiple times during a campaign event in Bogotá. Two bullets struck him in the head, another in the knee.

The alleged shooter, reportedly a 15-year-old boy, is currently receiving medical treatment following his apprehension. Authorities have yet to disclose a motive for the attack.

Prior to the incident, no specific threats against Uribe Turbay were publicized. Known for his vocal criticism of Colombia's leftist government and his opposition towards guerrilla groups and drug cartels, Uribe Turbay belongs to the Democratic Centre party. The Colombian government has vowed to deploy all available resources, including military, police, and intelligence services, to solve the case and bring any masterminds to justice.

Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that over 100 investigators are working diligently on the case. Authorities had previously offered a monetary reward of over 600,000 euros for information leading to the case’s resolution.

The attack has left Colombia stunned. Hundreds of citizens lit candles and prayed for Uribe Turbay in major cities on Sunday.

"Colombia is in pain," said 41-year-old Carolina Gomez, as she lit a candle outside the hospital. The gathering crowd echoed her sentiments, chanting "Strength for you, Miguel" and "The people are with you." Uribe Turbay's wife expressed her gratitude for the nation's support and asked for collective prayers for her husband's recovery.
