Presidential hopeful Peter Obi to launch his political party in November, as confirmed by an ally
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, is gearing up for another presidential run in 2027. According to a senior insider in Obi's camp, his formal declaration, set for November, will determine whether he will remain in the Labour Party or switch to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has urged members to remain active, mobilize support, and continue promoting Obi's agenda. Tanko's focus is on speaking about what Peter Obi will do for Nigeria in lifting people out of poverty, improving security, health, and the economy.
In the coming days, Obi is planning to meet with several former heads of state, including General Ibrahim Babangida, General T.Y. Danjuma, General Yakubu Gowon, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and others. These meetings are described as "friendly consultations" by Tanko. After meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, Obi briefed former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the outcome.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) appears unfazed by Obi's consultations with former leaders. The APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, believes that Peter Obi will face another defeat in 2027, citing the party's delivery on promises and the confidence Nigerians have in them. Bala Ibrahim also mentioned that there is nothing new in Peter Obi's current moves that he didn't do in 2023 when he was defeated.
Despite this, Obi continues to solicit continued backing from Olusegun Obasanjo and other political heavyweights. An official announcement on his political platform is expected in November after full consultations, as per Tanko.
Meanwhile, Bala Ibrahim stated that Nigerians are satisfied with President Bola Tinubu's performance. However, the APC believes they are delivering on their promises and will continue until they fully renew the people's hope.
In conclusion, Peter Obi's 2027 presidential ambitions are gaining momentum as he seeks advice and support from former leaders and continues to rally his supporters. The outcome of his consultations and the support he receives will likely shape his political strategy in the upcoming election.
