Presidential hopeful in Poland publicly dismantles Ukrainian flag from the mayor's locale.
During a raucous rally for Polish presidential hopeful Grzegorz Braun, supporters descended upon Biała Podlaska's town hall, snatching down the Ukrainian flag that had been proudly flying there since 2022. Braun owning up to this audacious act, declaring himself accountable for it. These events were reported by Do Rzeczy.
A viral video from the rally made the rounds on social media, depicting a man ascending a ladder to the town hall's balcony, yanking the Ukrainian flag from its perch and delivering it to Braun. In exchange, he was rewarded with a grateful nod. The raucous crowd also erupted in applause.
"Allow me to clarify that my aid, Mr. Kacper, acting as my representative in the Polish MEP, carried out this daring deed upon my explicit orders," Braun told the cheering crowd. He further promised to return the Ukrainian flag to the nearest Ukrainian consulate.
This wasn't Braun's first controversial act involving flags. In an earlier incident, he had removed the Ukrainian flag from the mound of the esteemed Polish national hero Tadeusz Kościuszko, in Kraków.
Previously, Grzegorz Braun had been scrutinized in Poland for advocating the "war until the last Ukrainian" notion.
It's worth noting that Braun, a far-right presidential candidate, has a penchant for provocative actions,, often framing them as resistance against "communist influences," as evidenced in hisrecent TV debate where he disparaged "Judeo-communism"[4][5]. Authorities are currently investigating both the flag removal[1] and his recent antisemitic remarks[4].
