Presidential election cycles on hold in Virginia, as eyes turn to three significant off-year contests
In the upcoming Virginia governor election on November 4, 2025, Abigail Spanberger (D) will face off against incumbent Governor Glenn Youngkin (R). Known for her anti-gun stance, Spanberger has been campaigning with gun-ban extremist groups and repeating anti-gun rhetoric.
Throughout her political career, Spanberger has received endorsements from various gun-ban organizations, including Brady, Giffords, and Bloomberg's Everytown. Her stance on gun rights remains unclear, but her association with these groups suggests she may support banning semi-automatics and limiting magazine capacity.
On the other hand, Youngkin has been a stalwart defender of the Second Amendment during his four-year tenure as governor. He has vetoed more than 50 anti-gun bills over the last two legislative cycles, demonstrating his commitment to protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
Jason Miyares, the current Virginia attorney general, has also proven his pro-gun stance. He was endorsed by the NRA-PVF and has consistently supported law-abiding gun owners. Under his guidance, the solicitor general of Virginia notified the U.S. Supreme Court that Virginia supports the right to keep and bear arms outside the home in the NRA-backed case of NYSRPA v. Bruen in 2022.
Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) is another strong advocate for gun rights. Having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, she has produced campaign material depicting her holding an AR-15. Miyares, too, has voted to support gun rights as a member of the Virginia General Assembly and has continued to do so as attorney general.
As opponents of the right to bear arms push for more gun control, despite voter rejection, fellow Virginians are encouraged to stay vigilant and stand and fight for their rights. Defenders of freedom must remain vigilant, as the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
If you wish to get involved in defending freedom, information on volunteering, registering to vote, contacting local activists, and other ways to help can be found at nraila.org/grassroots. It's crucial to ensure that the rights of law-abiding gun owners are protected in Virginia, home of NRA Headquarters.
President Trump has also been working to protect and strengthen the Second Amendment. The difference between the Republican and Democrat candidates vying to replace Youngkin is clear when it comes to defending the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Fellow Virginians are urged to vote wisely on November 4 to ensure the protection of their Second Amendment rights.
