Presidential Candidate: Stefano Di Carlo Announces Bid for November Elections in River District
Stefano Di Carlo launched his presidential bid for River Plate on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the club's elections. In an event held at Parque Yrigoyen, San Martín party, attended by over a thousand militants, Di Carlo was presented by Norberto "Beto" Alonso, an icon of River's history.
Di Carlo's candidacy is not surprising as he has been mentioned as a successor to Jorge Brito. The new River statute, effective in this election, does not allow the reelection of the president, making way for new leadership.
As of now, only Stefano Di Carlo and Pablo Lunati are confirmed as candidates for the River Plate elections. While Di Carlo has the support of Rodolfo D'Onofrio and Brito himself for his candidacy, Lunati's nomination was confirmed through a video mention. It is important to note that D'Onofrio has explicitly ruled out running as a candidate for River Plate president.
The electoral roll for the upcoming River Plate elections will have approximately 100,000 eligible voters, a significant increase from the 2021 elections where a record number of voters turned out: 19,833. It is estimated that around 30,000 will vote in this year's elections.
The voting process will be done electronically at the Monumental Stadium for the first time in history. The lists for the current River club elections will close at the end of the month.
The new River statute also requires a 20% female quota in all governing bodies. Women must be intercalated with men on the lists according to the new statute. Negotiations are ongoing for candidates from the opposition, with no confirmations yet.
Di Carlo, in his campaign, has declared that his primary focus is to win the Copa Libertadores. The Copa Libertadores is the most prestigious club competition in South America. In the 2021 River club elections, the Filosofía River list, headed by Jorge Brito, won with 14,020 preferences, representing 70.69% of the total votes.
As the election date approaches, more information about the candidates and their manifestos will be revealed. The voting for the River Plate elections will take place on Saturday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
The budget for the sports section in the upcoming news broadcast might include a segment discussing the River Plate elections, as there are only two confirmed candidates: Stefano Di Carlo and Pablo Lunati. Di Carlo, supported by Rodolfo D'Onofrio and Jorge Brito, has stated his primary focus is to win the Copa Libertadores, the most prestigious club competition in South America.
