Hey there! Let's talk about the shocking events that took place in Bogotá recently.

The prominent face of conservative politics, Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, was shot during a campaign rally on a fateful Saturday. The gunfire sent waves of panic through the crowd, leaving the presidential hopeful in a critical condition. Two bullets struck him in the head, and another wounded his knee.

According to police reports, the suspected shooter was a 15-year-old boy, who was injured during his apprehension and is currently receiving medical treatment. The motive behind this horrific act remains unclear as of Sunday. It's worth noting that no specific threats against Uribe Turbay materialized before the incident.

Uribe Turbay is a staunch critic of President Gustavo Petro's government and an ardent opponent to guerrilla groups and drug cartels in Colombia. In response to this incident, the Colombian government has pledged to employ all its resources, including the police, army, and intelligence agencies, to shed light on the case and apprehend anyone masterminding this attack.

Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed that approximately 100 investigators are working tirelessly on the case. The authorities had previously offered a substantial reward of over 600,000 euros for information leading to the resolution of the case.

The attack has left the country in a state of shock. On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered in major cities across Colombia, lighting candles for Uribe Turbay and offering heartfelt prayers for his swift recovery. Carolina Gomez, a 41-year-old resident of Bogotá, expressed her sentiments by saying, "Our hearts are broken, Colombia is suffering." The crowd echoed her sentiments, chanting "Strength for you, Miguel" and "The people are with you." Uribe Turbay's wife expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support and asked for collective prayers to expedite her husband's recovery.

Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, born in Bogotá and part of a prominent Colombian family with Lebanese roots, has been a member of the Senate since 2022. Known for his conservative views, he is a potential candidate for the Democratic Centre in the 2026 Colombian presidential election.[1][2] Uribe Turbay studied law and public policy at the University of the Andes and furthered his education with a master's in public administration from Harvard.[2] His mother, Diana Turbay, was a journalist who was kidnapped and killed by the Medellín Cartel in 1991.[1][2] After the shooting, Uribe Turbay underwent neurosurgical and other procedures and remains in a critical condition.[2]

Despite the cruel and unexpected attack on Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, the public's resolve remains unshaken. In the face of politics, general news, and crime-and-justice, they vow, "I'm not gonna let you go, Senator Turbay. I'm not gonna let you go." While the details of the motive behind the shooting remain unknown, the people of Colombia stand united, repeating their promises of support, "Strength for you, Miguel," and "The people are with you."
