Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Assassination Attempt: 15-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

In a shocking turn of events, Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe, a presidential candidate at the time, passed away in the early hours of August 11 in a Bogota hospital. His death followed an assassination attempt on June 7, which left him in a grave state for over two months.

The minor suspect in the attack was a 15-year-old youth who arrived on a motorcycle during the incident. The teenager was arrested at the scene of the shooting and charged with attempted homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. According to reports, he claimed he acted for money from a drug dealer.

The shooter approached Senator Uribe from approximately 1.5 meters away and fired six shots, one of which hit the senator's head. The attack took place in the El Golfito park, in the Modelia neighborhood, in Bogota.

Authorities have arrested six suspects in total related to the attack, including the minor who was the alleged shooter, and others accused of logistical support and planning. An individual named Elder José Arteaga Hernández, also known as "El Costeño," was identified as the alleged mastermind behind the attack.

Throughout his two-month battle for life, Senator Uribe's wife posted updates about his condition on Instagram. The last post was dated July 28, featuring an archived video of the senator. Unfortunately, the senator's condition deteriorated, exacerbated by the grave state he had been in, and he passed away.

The report about Senator Uribe's death was made by Blu Radio. Colombian President Gustavo Petro described the suspect as having social difficulties and having dropped out of a government peace program for youth.
