Tit-for-Tat Politics: Ajayi Hits Back at Utomi as DSS Case Looms
"Presidential Aide Criticizes Tinubu, Alleging He Becomes Dictatorial When Frustrated in His Goals"
In a heated Exchange, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has taken a dig at former Presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, over his jabs at President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Remember the controversial fuss over the Department of State Services (DSS) accusing Utomi of trying to unfairly grab hold of President Bola Tinubu's executive power by establishing a secret government? Well, that's still a hot topic!
On May 16, 2025, Ajayi, going by his X handle, took to social media to reminisce about Utomi's past desires for Tinubu's endorsement and financial backing to become the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State.
Ajayi's post read, "Every four years and ahead of every election, @UtomiPat will come up with one grand illusion and mega coalition that had always ended up being a mirage. The latest venture is Big Tent Shadow Government. The same man calling President Tinubu names now wanted his endorsement and funding to become APC Governorship candidate in Delta State. Tinubu only becomes a tyrant when they can't get what they want from him."
Meanwhile, political analyst, Laolu Akande, has urged the DSS to focus on more pressing national issues, rather than pursuing Utomi. He made these remarks during an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on May 16, 2025. Akande brushed off concerns surrounding the proposed shadow government, describing it as harmless political thoughts rather than a threat to national security.
"I would advise the DSS people not to bother themselves too much. There are more important things for the DSS to deal with. Please, let's do that. Just leave Utomi alone, he's just having fun," Akande said.
The ongoing DSS case against Utomi is set to test the bounds of free speech and political dissent, as Utomi has strongly rebuked the DSS's actions, calling them cowardice and a betrayal of the Nigerian Constitution. The legal case is yet to be assigned to a judge.
In the complex landscape of Nigerian politics, this duel between Ajayi and Utomi serves as a microcosm of the ongoing power struggle, tensions, and the intricate web of alliances.
