In a continuation of their long-standing relationship, US President Donald Trump will welcome Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House next week. This meeting comes as discussions between the two nations on various trade and military agreements persist.

One of the agreements in question involves the purchase of Boeing aircraft by Turkey, a move that could strengthen the economic ties between the two countries. Additionally, ongoing negotiations centre around the acquisition of F-16 fighter jets, a potential deal that could bolster Turkey's military capabilities.

Moreover, optimism surrounds the discussions concerning F-35 fighter jets, with a positive outcome expected. The F-35, known as the most advanced fighter jet in the world, would undoubtedly provide Turkey with a significant military boost if the deal were to materialise.

The negotiations, however, extend beyond conventional arms deals. Trump has been engaged in discussions regarding strategic transit corridors, such as the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), between Azerbaijan and its exclave Nakhchivan. This proposed corridor would grant the US exclusive operation rights for 99 years, as part of trilateral peace efforts in the Caucasus region. The aim of these negotiations is not conventional trade agreements, but rather geopolitical influence and regional stabilisation.

It's worth noting that Turkey, as a NATO member, could potentially influence the ongoing discussions regarding the Russian war against Ukraine. Despite this, no mention was made by Trump about discussing efforts to end the conflict during the meeting.

Trump and Erdogan have a history of good relations, with the Turkish President previously hosted at the White House during Trump's first term. Trump has emphasised that he and President Erdogan have always had a good relationship, expressing anticipation to welcome him again at the White House.

As the discussions between the US and Turkey continue, the potential outcomes could have significant implications for both nations and the wider global political landscape. The anticipated meeting next week promises to be a pivotal moment in the ongoing partnership between the two countries.
