Trump vs Carney: Canada Ain't Up for Grabs, Says Prime Minister

In a heated exchange, Prime Minister Mark Carney put President Donald Trump in his place, makes it clear that Canada ain't no real estate for sale. Trump, on the other hand, suggested it wasn't ruled out.

Trump, fresh from signing a significant trade deal with the U.K., is already geared up for trade talks with China over the weekend. The specificities of this U.K. deal are hazy, but it keeps the existing 10% tariffs on British goods while slashing some import taxes on items such as steel and cars.

"With this deal, the U.K. joins forces with the USA, affirming that reciprocity and fairness is mandatory for international trade," Trump announced on Thursday. "The deal boosts billions in increased market access for American exports, especially in agriculture, greatly amplifying access for American beef, ethanol, and virtually all farmer-produced goods."

We can all play games – who made the first call, who didn't? It doesn't matter. What matters is what happens in that room. But I will tell you that China is eager to make a deal. We'll see how that works out."

Trump Tilts at Windmills with Carney

Trump continued his pursuit of expanding the U.S., expressing his long-standing desire for Canada to become a U.S. state during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Trump has been vocal about his aspiration for Canada, discussing potential acquisitions like Greenland and the Panama Canal for military security purposes. However, Carney made it clear that such talk is off the table. "Having conversed with the proprietors of Canada during the campaign period, it's not for sale," Carney told reporters at the White House. He stressed that Canada is open to forging a partnership instead. "We have a past of doing this, and part of that endeavor, as the president mentioned, concerns our security. My government is devoted to increasing our investment in Canadian security and our partnership."

Welcome Home, Ksenia!

Trump also welcomed Russian-American ballet dancer, Ksenia Karelina, to the White House on Monday. Karelina was facing a 12-year stint in a Russian penal colony for treason in 2024, but the Trump administration managed to negotiate her release in a U.S.-Russian prisoner exchange in April.

"I'm so grateful to Trump and the American government for bringing me home," Karelina stated in a video posted by Trump's deputy assistant, Sebastian Gorka, upon her return to the U.S.

Karelina, a Los Angeles resident born in Russia, was nabbed in 2024 during a visit to her family in Yekaterinburg, Russia, after her phone was inspected, revealing a donation to a U.S.-based charity supporting Ukraine.
