SCJN President's Arrival in San Lázaro Sparks Celebration: Hugo Aguilar Declares "We Have Something to Celebrate, Constitutional Reform is Here"

President Hugo Aguilar of the SCJN steps foot in San Lázaro, declaring a cause for celebration as constitutional reform is now a reality.

In a significant development, the President of the Board of Directors at the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, welcomed Hugo Aguilar Ortiz upon his arrival at the Chamber of Deputies. The meeting, which took place at the Interinstitutional Encounter "Mexico Multicultural: Advances and Challenges in the Rights of Indigenous Peoples," was also attended by Ricardo Monreal, the coordinator of Morena in San Lázaro.

Upon arrival, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz was directed to the first floor of building B for a private meeting with Sergio Gutiérrez Luna and Ricardo Monreal. Although the specific name of the current President Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) was not explicitly provided, it is crucial to note that the Supreme Court underwent substantial change after a June 2025 judicial reform election. Eight of the eleven ministers, including presumably the President Minister, resigned and were replaced by justices largely affiliated with or sympathetic to the ruling Morena party.

This reshaping of the judicial power marked a new era beginning September 1, 2025, where Mexico’s judiciary is moving away from a historically insular system to one more tied to the electoral process and political parties. The meeting would have featured the newly elected justices of the Supreme Court, including the President Minister, together with federal deputies—members of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower legislative house responsible for direct popular representation.

Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, who was elected as the President Minister of the SCJN, will participate in the "interinstitutional encounter" scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. During a small chat with Ricardo Monreal, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz commented about the fund created by the President.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, 27 alleged members of the CJNG were detained in Aguascalientes. The U.S. Embassy highlighted the FBI training in relation to the detention. However, the context of the U.S. Embassy's statement, "firm hand" of Sheinbaum against organized crime after sending 26 narcos; thanks 'valiant cooperation'," is not clear from the provided information.

This first meeting between federal deputies and the new judicial power is being headed by Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, the elected President Minister of the SCJN. Ricardo Monreal, the coordinator of Morena, accompanied Hugo Aguilar Ortiz on a tour of the Chamber of Deputies.
