In the world of Indian cinema, Anupam Kher's latest directorial venture, "Tanvi The Great," has been making headlines. This heartfelt drama, which Kher also co-wrote, tells the inspiring story of a 21-year-old woman on the autism spectrum, Tanvi Raina, who aspires to join the Indian Army and fulfil her late father's dream of saluting the national flag at the Siachen Glacier.

The film, produced under Kher's own banner in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), features an ensemble cast including Shubhangi Dutt as Tanvi, Kher himself, Pallavi Joshi, Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, and others. The music was composed by Oscar winner M.M. Keeravani. "Tanvi The Great" premiered internationally at the Cannes Film Festival's Marché du Film and was slated for screenings in other major cities worldwide, marking a significant international rollout.

The film has been praised for its emotional depth and social message about breaking barriers and inclusion, resonating with audiences of various ages and backgrounds. However, commercially, it struggled at the box office, as it released on the same day as Mohit Suri’s more commercially successful "Saiyaara," which dominated the market with its music and young star cast. Despite this, Kher prioritized the emotional impact of the film over commercial earnings and expressed no disappointment over the financial outcome.

The film's journey was reportedly challenging, with early rejections and casting difficulties, which Kher details in his book "Different But No Less," launched alongside the film. Kher described the creation of this film as a project demanding emotional strength rather than financial gain, calling it the strongest work of his life. The film is also notable for being crowd-funded by independent financiers, including friends and professionals outside the film industry, and several lead actors deferred their payment to support the project.

On India's Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu hosted an At Home event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Anupam Kher was invited. Kher, expressing his gratitude for the invitation, shared pictures from the event on Instagram and wrote about feeling honored and blessed.

"Tanvi The Great" had a successful festival run at Cannes and in major cities like New York, Houston, and London. The film received accolades both domestically and internationally. Anupam Kher, in a conversation with ANI, wished Indians living across the world on Independence Day and expressed pride in India's current position, asking for blessings for the country's continued progress.

In an unexpected turn of events, during the film's screening in New York, legendary actor Robert De Niro attended the premiere, leaving Kher in shock. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, chiefs of the three armed forces, and foreign envoys.

As the film continues its journey, it serves as a powerful testament to inclusion, resilience, and the importance of dreams, transcending the constraints of disability.

Social media users lauded Anupam Kher's heartfelt drama, "Tanvi The Great," for its portrayal of a 21-year-old woman on the autism spectrum, expressing their admiration for the film's social message and its star-studded cast featuring celebrities like Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, and Iain Glen. Celebrities used platforms like Instagram to share their thoughts on the film, with some even attending its premieres, such as Robert De Niro in New York.
