Trump's representative, Karoline Leavitt, was queried about how long Trump could maintain a constructive stance while anticipating the Kremlin's approval for negotiations. Putin, it seems, allegedly told the US President that he wasn't obligated to attend.

In a recent development, the proposed format for the highly anticipated peace talks between US President Donald Trump, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, and Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin has undergone a change. The peace talks, which were initially planned as a three-way meeting, will now be a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky alone.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed questions regarding this change. When asked whether Trump can be certain that Putin is willing to speak to Zelensky, given reports that Putin proposed Moscow as the location for bilateral talks, a proposal that Zelensky would likely refuse, Leavitt chose not to comment on the specifics of the location.

The change in format, according to an anonymous senior official in the Trump administration, was initiated within the US administration. The official claimed that Putin was responsible for the change, stating that Putin told Trump, "You don't have to come. I want to see him one on one." The official implied that the change was part of diplomatic adjustments to prioritize direct peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine without US presence.

However, no specific individual within the US administration was named as the originator of the idea. The change in format evolved during conversations between Trump, Putin, Zelensky, and European leaders.

The US President has emphasised the importance of security guarantees in ensuring a lasting peace in Ukraine. He has definitively ruled out putting US boots on the ground in Ukraine. Concrete details of a potential security accord are reportedly set to be worked out within the next ten days.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands has deployed 2 of its 3 Patriot batteries to Poland, indicating a potential escalation in tensions in the region. The risk of future Russian aggression against Ukraine, according to Trump, is "largely overrated."

Trump, President Zelensky, and European leaders have held multilateral talks in an effort to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The shift in the peace talk format is seen as a step towards direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with the US taking a more indirect role in the process.
