Preparing for the final races, Remco Evenepoel gears up with Soudal-QuickStep at Livigno's high-altitude training camp, signaling a fresh start.

Remco Evenepoel, the world-class cyclist, has announced his move to Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe at the end of the 2025 season, marking a significant shift in his career.1 This transfer, one of the biggest stories of the summer, will see Evenepoel join the team as the top general classification (GC) leader starting in 2026.2

Evenepoel's decision to leave Soudal–QuickStep is driven by his ambition to win the Tour de France, a goal that he and his entourage believe the new team setup can better support.3 Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe offers a larger budget, more Grand Tour-winning experience, stronger climbing teammates, and management fully focused on the Tour de France.3

Evenepoel will join a leadership trio at Red Bull alongside Primož Roglič and Florian Lipowitz, creating a “superteam” targeting dominance in the WorldTour and particularly Grand Tours.1 Roglič is confirmed under contract for 2026, and Lipowitz recently finished third overall and won the Best Young Rider at the 2025 Tour de France.4 Depending on their strategy, Roglič may take a support role or focus on other goals in support of Evenepoel’s aspirations.4

The deal reportedly runs through at least 2028 and involved a €2 million buyout fee from Soudal Quick-Step.5 Evenepoel will also bring key staff, including his mechanic (and cousin) Dario Kloek, soigneur David Geeroms, and assistant director Klaas Lodewyck to Red Bull–Bora–Hansgrohe.5

Evenepoel's future racing plans centre on targeting more Grand Tour victories, especially the Tour de France, with preparations already underway in 2025 for his 2026 campaign and beyond.3 His final race in Soudal's blue and white colours is likely to be Il Lombardia on October 11.6

During his time with Soudal, Evenepoel achieved remarkable success, including winning the stage 5 time trial around Caen during the Tour de France, as well as finishing third overall in the general classification for the first half of the race.7 However, he struggled with fatigue during the Peyragudes mountain time trial and climbed off during stage 14 to Superbagnères.8

Evenepoel's mother stated that it was important for him to find rest, reset, and recover properly after the Tour.9 He started altitude training in Livigno and completed the final details of his transfer to Red Bull during his recovery from illness.10 Evenepoel is expected to return to racing at the Tour of Britain in early September.11

Evenepoel owes a lot to Patrick Lefevere for starting his career, and he is expected to finish his season with Quick-Step and hopes to conclude his time with the team successfully.12 Cyclingnews will cover all cycling transfers from the men's and women's pelotons during the 2026 season.13
