Preparing for Potential Wildfires Becomes Focus in Benalmadena
Benalmádena's Future Municipal Emergency Centre: A Beacon of Resilience
Benalmádena, a town in Malaga Province, Spain, is set to bolster its emergency response capabilities with the construction of a new Municipal Emergency Centre. The centre, designed to be the safest in town, will house emergency management operations, modernised fire service facilities, and Benalmádena's security and emergency training school.
The building, which will incorporate seismic resistance and self-sufficiency to withstand natural disasters, is also intended to set the standard for multidisciplinary emergency facilities in Andalusia. A significant investment package for 2025-2026 has been discussed for this project.
Mayor Juan Antonio Lara has been actively involved in the planning process, meeting with municipal technicians, architects, and fire service officials to ensure the centre's design aligns with the town's needs. The design is future-proof, allowing for expansion and adaptability.
The centre will feature space for out-of-hospital medical emergency services, and €1.4 million has been earmarked for three advanced firefighting vehicles. The local Civil Protection unit will be located within the centre, alongside essential supplies such as an SAE and IT system, submersible pumps, and hydrant equipment, for which €43 thousand has been approved.
While specific details about the centre's construction, budget, and other related facilities are not yet publicly available, it is known that Benalmádena has taken action to address wildfires, a concern highlighted by the severe wildfires that hit Malaga Province in 2025.
Interestingly, Benalmádena has also recently taken charge of care for stray and abandoned animals, with emergency response provisions for urgent cases supported by facilities capable of housing up to 40 animals. These facilities include specialised areas for cats, proper lighting, ventilation, and exercise spaces.
As more information about the future Municipal Emergency Centre becomes available, we will keep you updated. For now, the town of Benalmádena continues to demonstrate its commitment to preparedness and resilience.
