Last year Fritzlar, a previous host, opted out of a Hessentag arena due to budget constraints. However, Bad Vilbel once again chooses to showcase "ostentation and grandeur." "A million-dollar deficit and subsequent hangover are to be feared," warned the association spokesperson.
David Rauber, Managing Director of the Hessian Cities and Municipalities Association, presents an alternative viewpoint. "Fritzlar showcased the prowess of a smaller Hessentag. Bad Vilbel is simply a larger city, financially stable, and situated in the heart of the Rhine-Main metropolitan area," he explains. The city anticipates welcoming around 750,000 visitors, almost 140,000 more than Fritzlar managed last year, all thanks to its location.
Success and harmony are all fingers crossed for as both approaches are justified. Critics may see Bad Vilbel's approach as extravagant, but the city hopes its gamble pays off in enhancing its infrastructure, regional recognition, and of course, the ties that bind its community.
