Preparing for Australia One-Day Internationals? Virat Shares Photo with Coach During Training Session
Virat Kohli, the legendary Indian batter, is set to make a comeback to One Day International (ODI) cricket after a brief hiatus. The focus is on his upcoming matches against South Africa and Australia, where he aims to break new records and touch significant milestones.
Kohli has been training diligently in London, with Naeem Amin, the assistant coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans, by his side. A picture shared on Kohli's Instagram shows the two in a practice session, with Kohli captioning it, "Thanks for helping out with the hit brother. Always lovely to see you."
The ODI comeback was initially scheduled for an August series against Bangladesh but was postponed. However, Kohli's intent to return was evident when he shared photos from an indoor cricket training session with Naeem Amin. Kohli is expected to rejoin the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series in Australia, scheduled from October 19 to 25, 2025.
In ODIs, Kohli has made 14,181 runs in 290 innings at an average of 57.88. He has scored 51 centuries and 74 fifties, with his best score being 183. In Australia, Kohli has a remarkable record, having made 1,327 runs in 29 matches and innings at an average of 51.03.
The first ODI match will take place at Perth's Optus Stadium on October 19. The series against Australia will be followed by three more ODIs against South Africa at home, offering Kohli an opportunity to touch the 15,000 ODI run mark and the 28,000 international runs mark.
Kohli ended his Test career as India's most successful Test captain, with 40 wins in 68 Tests. In 123 Tests, he scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, and a best score of 254*.
The Australian series also marks Kohli's return to competitive cricket after the IPL 2025 final, where he scored a crucial 43 runs to help Royal Challengers Bangalore win their first IPL title. Since then, he had remained mostly out of the limelight but has resumed rigorous training ahead of his international comeback.
With his unparalleled record and relentless determination, Kohli is indeed gearing up for a season of ODI cricket, as India will tour Australia from October 19 for a three-ODI and five-T20I series. The cricket fraternity eagerly awaits his return to the ODI arena.
