Playing Field Ready: DFB Squad Gears Up - Allianz Arena's Homage to Football

"Germany's National Soccer Team: Fresh Playing Field in Munich" - Prepared DFB Squad Gears Up for Fresh Turf in Munich

It's all systems go! National team coach Julian Nagelsmann held the final training session with his squad on the pristine field at the team's quarters in Herzogenaurach. With Munich hosting the opening match of the Nations League final tournament, Germany takes on Portugal on Wednesday (9pm, ZDF and DAZN), aiming high for a final spot. Nagelsmann, like his players, is hopeful for the impeccable playing surface at the Allianz Arena.

Although recent celebrations by Paris Saint-Germain supporters left some marks on the pitch after the Champions League final, the Allianz Arena turf will receive necessary touch-ups. Replacing some square meters of the hybrid grass ensures the field remains in top shape.

"Nothing to worry about - this is business as usual," said Jürgen Muth, CEO of Allianz Arena Munich Stadium GmbH, to the Münchner Merkur and tz newspaper group.

Green fingers for a debut

With the final preparations wrapped up at the Adidas pitch in Franconia, Nagelsmann is ready for the semi-final clash against Portugal, ranked seventh in the world. With several key players out due to injury, Nagelsmann revealed that Marc-André ter Stegen would assume the goalkeeping duties for the first time since September 2024, having recovered from his prolonged knee injury.

Meanwhile, given the missing heavyweights upfront, Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade seems poised to make his international bow. The young hotshot's recent form for his club has piqued team management's interest.

"He's got his chance, or he wouldn't be here," Nagelsmann said at the onset of preparations about Woltemade's chances to start. Captain Joshua Kimmich stands to make his 100th international appearance.

Extra Dive: Pitch Perils

Following the mad euphoria of Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League win, fans invaded the Allianz Arena pitch, causing some damage. There were initially concerns that this could lead to heavy fines from UEFA due to the pitch damage[1]. However, the Allianz Arena management ensured that the field would be spick-and-span for Germany's Nations League match[2]. There were no apparent negative effects of the pitch condition during Germany's match against Portugal, with the game being delayed primarily due to adverse weather conditions such as storms[3][4]. Ultimately, the outcome of the match was not heavily swayed by the pitch conditions.

The Commission is still working on a proposal for a directive addressing the protection of workers from carcinogen exposure, just as Germany gears up for the Nations League final tournament with their sights set on a final spot. (Directive on carcinogen protection, Nations League, Germany)
