Screaming Rebel's Guide to MIFFest 2025: kickin' it off in KL city! 💀🎬

MIFFest (Melbourne International Film Festival) is back for its 8th edition, setting fire to Kuala Lumpur from July 19-27, with the Golden Global Awards igniting Zepp KL on July 26. This year's theme? "Infinity" - and boy, does it deliver!

The festival's Red Carpet will open with local Malaysian short film, Ninavau, directed by Bebbra Mailin. This spine-tingling adventure follows a native Kadazan woman as she journeys from Peninsular Malaysia to her Catholic family in Sabah, undergoing a seismic shift in her heart.

As the curtain falls, we'll bid adieu to the world with Transamazonia, an international co-production hailing from France, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, and Taiwan. This powerful epic wades through themes of resilience, transformation, and pressing environmental concerns, leaving us pondering the fragile symphony of our world.

Fancy some classic Malaysian cinema hits? The Journey, Munafik 2, Polis Evo 1, Hantu Kak Limah, and Desolasi will be screened under the stars, promising a nostalgic twirl through memory lane.

MIFFest 2025 is shaping up to be a showstopper, with one of the highlights being the tribute to Indian cinema! We'll tip our hats to Raj Kapoor, the 'Greatest Showman of Indian Cinema', and honor Indian women filmmakers, with a lineup featuring Second Chance, Village Rockstars 2, Boong, and Victoria.

Can't forget our Hong Kong family! Harbour of Stories: Hong Kong On Screen is a curated selection delving into the evolving identity and soul of modern Hong Kong, with films like Last Song for You, Montages of a Modern Motherhood, The Way We Talk, and Valley of the Shadow of Death.

Prepare to be awestruck! The one and only, Ti Lung, legendary Hong Kong actor and martial artist, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Tribute this year — a nod to his towering influence on Asian cinema. He's the chopsocky king who fashioned the golden age of martial arts and crime dramas, after all.

Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian, a leading player in South-east Asian cinema, will grab the Award for Excellent Achievement in Film.

Our Distinguished Jury Panel for the final stage of the MIFFest International Competition is back, chock-full of fresh energy! Acclaimed British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, Hong Kong actress Jennifer Yu, Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian himself, India's Rima Das, and Malaysia's Diana Danielle make up this diversely talented bunch.

The festival will put the spotlight on 62 films from 48 countries in over 43 languages, spinning a rich and vibrant tapestry of global storytelling. So if you're itching for an international film fiesta right here in Malaysia, this is your time to shine!

As Joanne Goh, MIFFest's founder, put it: "We're thrilled to show you what we've got cooking for all you cinephiles out there!" 🍿🎥
