Preparations underway for the Jets faceoff by the Buccaneers, aiming for a 3-0 season kickoff success

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to host the New York Jets this Sunday afternoon, as both teams look to build on their early-season success.

In their last outing, the Buccaneers rallied for a 20-19 road victory over the Houston Texans, thanks to a game-winning 2-yard run by Rachaad White with six seconds remaining. Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 25 of 38 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 33 yards on three attempts.

However, the Buccaneers will be without standout defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, who has been placed on injured reserve due to a pectoral injury. Kancey recorded a team-leading 7.5 sacks in just 12 games last season.

Meanwhile, the Jets will be starting Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, as Justin Fields is out due to a concussion. Taylor last started games in 2023 for the New York Giants. The Jets have seven players missing practice, including safety Tony Adams, cornerback Michael Carter II, pass rusher Jermaine Johnson II, defensive lineman Jay Tufele, receiver Josh Reynolds, running back Kene Nwangwu, and undrafted rookie Brady Cook will serve as the Jets' No. 2 quarterback.

First-year New York coach Aaron Glenn has expressed confidence in Taylor's ability to lead the offense. The Jets are averaging 274 yards per game, ranking 26th in the NFL.

The Buccaneers will be hoping for the returns of star wideout Chris Godwin Jr., standout left tackle Tristan Wirfs, and offensive tackle Luke Goedeke, who are all limited in practice and could potentially make their season debuts on Sunday. Offensive tackle Cody Mauch also sits out.

The Jets lead the series 10-3, but Tampa Bay has won the past two meetings. The Buccaneers are currently 2-0 for the fifth consecutive season, but have not achieved a 3-0 start since 2005.

The Buccaneers' comeback in the fourth quarter helped them beat the Atlanta Falcons 23-20 in Week 1. The game-winning score against the Falcons was made with 59 seconds remaining. Taylor will make his 59th career regular-season start for the New York Jets, as Justin Fields (concussion) has been ruled out. Taylor has a 28-28-1 regular-season record.

Receiver Emeka Egbuka is missing the walkthrough due to hip/groin issues.

This promises to be an exciting matchup between two teams looking to establish themselves as contenders in the NFL. Don't miss the action as the Buccaneers and Jets face off on Sunday afternoon.
