Preparations in place for another year of amusing activities at Loch Ryan
Scottish Fin and Foil Championships and IQFOIL World Championships Set Sail
The world of wind-powered sailing is gearing up for an exciting summer, with two major events set to take place in the UK. The Scottish Fin and Foil Championships will return to Loch Ryan, Stranraer, from August 8 to 10, while the IQFOIL World Championships will take place in Brest, and the Techno293 World Championships will be held in Pwllheli.
The Scottish Fin and Foil Championships, now in its third year, will once again attract sailors to the scenic waters of Loch Ryan. Hosted by the Stranraer Water Sports Association, the event will feature both fin and foil category racing, with a focus on encouraging local youngsters to get involved in the sport.
Pre-race training will begin on August 4, followed by three days of competitive racing. The Championships will welcome the WASZP class for the first time in 2025, and will include windsurfing, wing foiling, hydrofoil windsurfing, and raceboard competition.
RYA Scotland and the UK Windsurfing Association (UKWA) will continue to support the event, which is expected to host between 80-100 competitors. The strong community ties and volunteer coordination of the Stranraer Watersports Association are key to the success of the Scottish Fin and Foil Championships, with around 50-60 volunteers helping ensure smooth operations.
Community taster sessions will also be held throughout the weekend, offering a chance for local residents to try out wind-powered sailing for themselves. The Championships come at a key moment in the international sailing calendar, and will be visible from both the shore and on the water.
Meanwhile, the IQFOIL World Championships will take place in Brest, and the Techno293 World Championships will be held in Pwllheli. Both events are set to attract top sailors from around the world, and promise to be exciting spectacles.
For registration, ticket details, and updates, interested participants should check the official Scottish Fin and Foil social media channels and the Stranraer Water Sports Association website.
