Preparations in full swing for Plunge Select Stakes race
As the summer racing season heats up, some of the UK's top greyhound trainers are gearing up for major events in Ireland and Nottingham.
Mark Wallis is training Proper Heiress for the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, with the greyhound set to trial over 550yds at Shelbourne Park before the race. Proper Heiress, currently at 25-1 odds, is making a strong bid for success in the €125,000 event. The multiple big-race champion has already claimed four Category One titles, including the Coral Sussex Cup at Hove.
Meanwhile, in Nottingham, Droopys Plunge is nominated for the £12,500 Arc Select Stakes on August 25. The greyhound completed a trial run of 29.16sec over 500m ahead of his return to racing at Nottingham on Monday. Droopys Plunge is also in contention for the Arc Select Stayers, with his impressive trial performance indicating a strong showing in the upcoming races.
Craig Morris's Chelms Bear is another greyhound to watch in the Arc Select Stakes. The dog trialled well over 500m and is nominated for the event. Droopys Flare, trained by Sean Parker, is also a possibility for the Arc Select Stayers, having recorded a time of 29.43sec in a trial.
Patrick Janssens is planning to bring kennel stars Slick Sentinel, Romeo Tomcat, Romeo Steel, and possibly Fabulous Heka for trials next week for the Arc Select Stakes. Loxleys Forest, trained by Jason Gray, is another greyhound to watch, having posted a time of 29.22sec in a trial over 500m.
