Preparation for Independence Day in Ludhiana: Establishment of 38 Security Checkpoints

Punjab Police Strengthen Security Measures Ahead of Independence Day

In preparation for Independence Day 2025, the Punjab Police have launched a special operation to enhance security across the region, with a particular focus on the city of Ludhiana.

The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, has given instructions to all district police chiefs, commissioners of police, and senior superintendents of police to ensure a visible police presence at vital spots. This includes intensifying domination operations in cities, setting up additional checkpoints, and increasing patrols.

Yadav reviewed security preparations in border districts and key cities, including Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jalandhar, on Monday. He emphasised the importance of preventive and detective measures to maintain peace and harmony during the Independence Day celebrations.

In Ludhiana, police teams have been instructed to conduct security inspections at high-footfall areas, such as the Inter-state bus terminal, railway station, parking lots, and major markets. The city intensified checking across its area on Tuesday, setting up 38 special checkpoints. These checks are aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful celebration.

Commissioner of police Swapan Sharma and deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Parminder Singh Bhandal have been overseeing the operations, visiting several checkpoints to ensure smooth execution.

The security measures in Ludhiana are part of a larger plan that includes other key cities in Punjab. The state police are also taking additional steps to counter potential threats, such as deploying anti-drone systems in sensitive areas, conducting cordon and search operations across hundreds of railway stations, and vigilance against pro-Khalistani threats following recent intelligence of attempted attacks.

The police presence in Ludhiana and the state remains vigilant even after Independence Day, due to ongoing festivals and potential security concerns. The police force in Ludhiana is part of a robust security matrix involving senior leadership oversight, extensive patrolling, vehicle checks, and community engagement to ensure safe celebrations.
