Preferred Driver Lineup for a Top-tier Cadillac Formula 1 Team

The highly-anticipated Cadillac Formula 1 team is set to unveil its driver lineup for the 2026 season, with a mix of experienced and promising talents under consideration.

According to team principal Graeme Lowdon, all options are on the table as the team prepares to make its debut in the world of Formula 1. One name that stands out as a top choice is Sergio Perez, thanks to his extensive experience, tire and fuel conservation skills, and overall race management.

Perez, who has aided Max Verstappen in winning one or two world titles, is considered a valuable asset due to his proven track record in the sport. However, he is not the only driver being considered for the full-time racer roles.

Valteri Bottas, Mercedes' best-ever Number 2 driver, is also being considered for a position, with Lowdon suggesting a potential role as a development driver. Bottas' years of experience at Mercedes could be invaluable to Cadillac in establishing processes and procedures, and his great communication skills are crucial for bridging the gap between drivers and engineering.

Moreover, Bottas' marketing appeal could attract sponsors and increase merchandise sales, making him a strong contender for a place in the team.

In addition to Perez and Bottas, Mick Schumacher, a second-generation racer who never truly got the opportunity he deserved in F1 with Haas, is also being discussed. Some might find his inclusion in the talks with Cadillac a surprise, but Lowdon has confirmed that he has been in talks with Schumacher, along with Perez and Bottas.

The author suggests giving Schumacher the reserve driver role, while Perez and Palou from IndyCar are proposed for the full-time racer positions.

Besides these three, Cadillac is also considering several other potential drivers. Yuki Tsunoda, a Red Bull driver who has been linked to the team, might be involved, although his participation could be contingent on certain circumstances. Felipe Drugovich, a young driver looking to break into F1, is often mentioned alongside other rookie candidates, as is Guanyu Zhou, currently driving for Alfa Romeo.

Jak Crawford and Jack Doohan, both young drivers, have also been linked to the team, with Doohan receiving support from his father Mick Doohan. Fred Vesti, a Mercedes reserve driver, is also being considered as a rookie option for the team.

The team will have four drivers in total: two full-time racers, a reserve driver, and a development driver. Lowdon has not revealed whether he is considering more drivers beyond Perez, Bottas, and Schumacher, but he has stressed that the drivers will be awarded based on merit.

As the Formula 1 season approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of Cadillac's driver lineup for 2026. With a mix of experienced and promising talents under consideration, it promises to be an exciting season for the team.
