Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Across Maharashtra

Maharashtra is bracing for another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) agromet advisory. The weather forecast indicates that these conditions will persist for the next 2-3 days, potentially causing disruptions across various sectors.

The IMD has issued yellow alerts for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds in 14 districts of Maharashtra on September 19, 2025. These include the Konkan region, where light to moderate rainfall is expected, and some districts in Vidarbha, which may remain relatively dry.

The Konkan region, known for its picturesque ghat regions, might experience relatively heavier showers compared to the plains areas. On the other hand, districts like Akola, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Washim, and Yavatmal in Vidarbha are likely to remain relatively dry.

Western Maharashtra districts, including Pune, are under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. Pune city experienced sudden heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon, resulting in waterlogging and traffic issues. Similarly, Nashik and Ahmednagar are under a yellow alert due to possible thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The Marathwada region, including Hingoli and Nanded districts, is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy spells. Amravati, Bhandara, Nagpur, and Wardha districts in Vidarbha are expected to receive significant rainfall.

Organisers of Navratri celebrations across the state may need to make arrangements for indoor venues due to the weather. Traffic disruptions are expected during peak rainfall hours, and residents are advised to monitor weather updates regularly for any escalation in warning levels.

Authorities urge citizens, especially those living in flood-prone areas and regions susceptible to landslides, to remain cautious. Continuous rainfall across several regions has caused significant damage to agriculture, resulting in crop losses and damage to essential commodities.

On a positive note, the city of Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 50 on Friday, with PM2.5 at 19 μg/m3 and PM10 at 49 μg/m3, both within safe limits.

However, there seems to be a lack of specific information about the regions in North Maharashtra under a Yellow Alert for thunderstorm rainfall and lightning on Friday, September 19, 2025.

The IMD predicts that September 20-22 will continue to show persistent monsoon conditions across Maharashtra. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
