Predicted Weather Development: Chances of storms returning to the Valley this week!
Phoenix is set to experience a heatwave this weekend, with temperatures climbing back into the low 100s on Saturday and Sunday. However, the city should anticipate more than just the usual heat, as any storms that develop could bring gusty winds, blowing dust, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy downpours capable of causing localized flooding.
The Valley is currently experiencing drier conditions, with lower rainfall averages. This trend continues as we approach the weekend, with high pressure building in, bringing drier air and hotter temperatures. In fact, temperatures will dip into the 90s on Thursday and Friday, but it will feel muggy as moisture surges in.
The monsoon season is making a comeback, and a storm system is approaching from the west. This influx of monsoon moisture could spark severe storms across parts of Arizona. The specific meteorologist or meteorologists assigned by the Phoenix weather center to forecast these impending storms have not been identified in the available public information.
It's worth noting that the Monsoon 2025 Sky Harbor Official Rainfall is 0.68", which is 1.53" below the average. This continues a trend of decreasing rainfall, with the Average Yearly Rainfall in Phoenix (1981-2010) being 8.03", and the NEW Average Yearly Rainfall (1991-2020) being 7.22". The Average Monsoon Rainfall (1981-2010) was 2.71", and the NEW Average Monsoon Rainfall (1991-2020) is 2.43".
Elsewhere, the Colorado River storage could hit critical lows by 2026. Dust is also drifting into the Valley from storms over eastern and southeastern Arizona.
