Predicted South Korean Trip for Xi Jinping during APEC Summit next month in China's Agenda

Chinese President Xi Jinping Expected to Visit South Korea for APEC Summit

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun is set to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, as President Xi Jinping is expected to visit South Korea in October for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. This visit would mark Xi's first trip to South Korea since 2014.

The special envoy delivered President Lee Jae Myung's personal letter of invitation to Xi last month, and Cho's visit to Beijing is the first high-level diplomatic engagement between the two countries since President Lee took office in June.

During their discussions, Cho and Wang are expected to focus on trade relations, regional cooperation, and efforts to ease tensions in Northeast Asia. Cho also discussed ways to deepen cooperation and reduce tensions in the region with his Chinese counterpart.

The formal diplomatic ties between China and South Korea were established in 1992, and bilateral trade between the two nations reached an all-time high of $267.6 billion in 2024, making China South Korea's largest trading partner.

If confirmed, Xi's visit would be a significant step forward in the relationship between the two countries. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which is scheduled to take place in Gyeongju from October 30 to November 1, 2025, is set to be a busy time for international diplomacy, with US President Donald Trump also expected to attend the event. Trump is reportedly expected to travel to South Korea in October for the APEC summit, and it is suggested that he may not have visited South Korea since 2014.

Cho's statement about Xi's visit was reported by Yonhap News Agency. The visit would be a significant milestone in the relationship between the two countries and is likely to have a positive impact on regional cooperation and trade relations.
