Coming Back Swinging: Gilbert Burns' Road to Redemption

After a rough patch that's seen him lose three out of his last four bouts, welterweight powerhouse Gilbert Burns is gearing up for a major comeback. fresh off a three-fight losing streak, Burns is aiming for UFC Vegas 106 as the perfect platform to kick-start his grand resurgence.

Originally slated for April, Burns' upcoming battle against Michael Morales has faced several postponements - a setback that Burns surprisingly sees as a blessing in disguise. "Durinho" explained in an interview with MMA Fighting:

"That's actually for the best. I've had more time to prepare and study my opponent."

With his sights set on an undefeated Morales, Burns exudes confidence: "I need to stick to the strategy. He's athletic, long, with a huge reach. Dangerous in the early rounds - he wins more on reflexes and speed than technique. I need to 'drown' him, taking away those advantages. My plan is movement, takedowns, control, defense, and attack."

Burns remains optimistic about his prospects, setting his sights on two crucial victories to catapult him back into title contention. With a successful outing against Morales, Burns asserts that he'll be well on his way to rejoining the title race. An additional groundbreaking win, Burns envisions, would propel him into cinematic stardom:

"Imagine: 'Durinho' - champion. That's a movie plot. My job is to believe it and make it happen."

Since his last victory in April 2023, Burns clinched a victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287 via unanimous decision. His next bout will take place on May 18.
